Huế, Day 26

Today was a day of sightseeing, and by the end of it, one thing was clear: in my next life, I want to be an empress too, like Tu Doc, for example, but more on that later.
In the middle of the city of Hue stands the imperial citadel (of course, it’s the other way around: the city was built around the citadel, which is about 400 x 400 meters in size and is in turn enclosed by the imperial city with a bastion, about 11 km in circumference), huge, with wonderful cloisters, a reading pavilion, an administration building, all decorated with the most beautiful floral and animal patterns. Inside, you can borrow clothes to take photos of each other in appropriate outfits, which is popular before TET..

It is interesting that everything that is privately organized here in the country works perfectly. In all hotels, I communicated mainly via WhatsApp, so that everyone could read all questions and answers at any time. The socialist system has created a lot of room for improvement in many areas: in road traffic, there seems to be no public transport, and even this tourist destination, the citadel: the audio guide was terrible, and the map, which was supposed to help you find your way around, provided little information.
.
But now to Emperor Tu Doc, from the Nguyen dynasty, who reigned until 1883 and had a special request regarding his food: he wanted an extravagant and therefore very special cuisine. More than 50 dishes were cooked for him every day by more than 50 chefs, and 50 servants served them to him. Elaborate preparation and decorative precision were highly valued, resulting in creations such as carrot flowers and cucumber feathers.

Yes, that sounds good! 😌.

Framed by the truly exciting cycling in this crazy traffic, we treated ourselves to the fantastic Bac Xiu! 😊
