Today is the day: a 13-hour flight and I will arrive in a completely different world, with temperatures of 30 degrees, hopefully sunshine, different smells and different sounds. As I fly, I will cross dozens of countries celebrating New Year’s Eve, seeing out the old year and welcoming in the new. Will I be able to see the fireworks from the air? What will the new year bring? How will all the crises unfold?.
.
But first and foremost: what will this unknown country show me, what people will I meet, and what stories will I experience? Will I find shop counter motifs as I imagine them?.
.
On all of this I will be happy to report here.
If you feel like it, please leave a comment below..

I wish you all a very good start to the new year and all the best for 2026!

A brief addition in which I would like to describe how exciting it is to travel with camera equipment. There are several hurdles to overcome, and often you simply have to rely on the kindness of strangers.
- Uber arrived on time
- The train arrived on time and !!!! was 9 minutes early in Frankfurt.
I’ve only experienced that once before with a Thalys train… - My backpack didn’t exceed the maximum weight (21 kg), but… my camera case weighed 13 kg, which was too much. Thankfully, it wasn’t weighed. Many years ago, I had to check in my camera case because it was overweight, which I definitely didn’t want to do this time.
- The fear of getting my analog films through the X-ray machine. A very nice man explained that I could put them in a transparent bag and then walk them past the X-ray machine. It can be that simple!
- Now I’m waiting another two hours, remembering the lighting during the train journey and wondering how different everything will be in 13 hours.
I WISH EVERYONE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
