for 111 years, the ellmühle in cologne-deutz was used to grind the aurora flour for the well-known slogan. then the mill was relocated, and the site has now been abandoned for two years. the series AURORA shows people at their former workplace telling their story. the portraits were taken at the respective workplaces in the mill. thus, on the one hand, it shows the documentary status quo of the architectural actual state.
on the other hand, the flour, which is only shadowy, blurred, and can only be guessed at, establishes the connection to its former production site. in this respect, the flour is an aesthetic medium of a temporal change and at the same time a link between the historical site and the present-day image: in the image, the thrown flour acts like a curtain that exposes the protagonists and removes them from their location. it thus also stands for a snapshot that is mystically charged by its blurred presence.
